 End of Summer Yin
Booked out!

Saturday March 19th 2.30 - 5pm
Yoga East

When we live in harmony with the world around us we thrive. As summer wanes and we can watch nature slowing down and contracting - it is preparing to rest. Let's mirror the cycles of nature and make preparations to do the same. To make a smooth transition, there are ways we can stay balanced - sleeping a little longer, eating warm and nourishing foods and moving inward. Our yoga practice also needs to shift to reflect what our body and mind needs.
Come along for a nurturing and healing afternoon of delicious practices designed to soothe mind, body and spirit. In the yin yoga we will target joint and lower back pain with poses to make space and create freedom in the lower back. We will explore and learn about the qualities of late summer meridian lines - stomach and spleen - and ways to bring ourselves into harmony with nature.

The afternoon starts with a guided meditation and moves into a yin yoga practice targeting  the lower bac and finishes with a yoga nidra.

Summer Loving Yoga
Saturday Jan 30th 2.30 - 5pm
Yoga East

Booked out!

 Summer Loving Yin

The heart sets our rhythm in life. When we flow with life we easily experience joy and deal with the ups and downs with grace. On the other hand, when we are resistant to the movement of life we can feel sadness and emptiness. A raging continuous fire does not serve us. A flame near extinction does not serve us. We need a constant flickering fire that fuels us from the inside and lets us respond appropriately to our lives.

Your fire energy inside sparks you up and allows you to be radiantly alive, to be open and abundant. This tiny spark lives in our hearts and is what we shine out into the world. Light your fire and shine from an open heart.

In this intensive:

- work with your current state of fire energy to replenish or mellow it - balance with cooling forward folds/heating with backbends
- learn about summer meridian lines heart and small intestine, when they are in harmony or out of harmony and suggestions to bring balance
- massage and stimulate your heart and small intestine meridians
- reset your digestion
- release tension around your spine, hips, and pelvis

Be truly alive and feel the joy!

Intensive 11

Yoga Workshop Sunday Oct 11th
Spring Yin & Yang

 Hello spring yogis,

I am truly ready to hop, skip and jump into spring and shake off winter with this Spring Yin & Yang Workshop.

We will be working firstly with 'Yang' yoga - a dynamic, active and heating practice. 'Yang' yoga works the muscles and circulates blood around the body. The sequence is designed to open up the whole body: sides, front and back. There will be lashings of twists to aid digestion, detox and generally release stiffness throughout the body.

We then move into 'Yin' yoga which is quiet, meditative and  cooling practice. A yin practice works with the connective tissue rather than muscles and provides deep release around the joints and creates space in the body for healing energy and fluids to flow. In this section, we move slowly into some juicy yin poses and begin to work more deeply with releasing deep tissue around our joints restoring our natural range of movement. We will also be focusing on massaging and nourishing the spring meridian pathways - liver/gallbladder.  To finish we will explore pranayama to balance mind and body before sitting quietly in meditation and then relaxing down into savasana.

Date: Sunday Oct 11th
Time: 9 until 11.30am
Venue: Yoga East 206 a Main Street, Bairnsdale
Cost $40 or $35 concession (HCC or full time student)

Intensive 9
Yoga Intensive August 22nd
Yin Yoga: Hip Hip Hooray

 Hip openers!
Love or hate...which one are you?

There is that moment in yoga class usually towards the end when the teacher begins to ease us into hip openers - pigeon or frog - and it is at this point that many of us want to pack up our mat and leave. The teacher will reassuringly ask us to be still and breathe into tightness as if this will make it magically disappear. Yet the after effects of these poses keep us coming back for more. Hip openers are poses to be treasured as they counteract the stress of modern living with its sedentary lifestyle and lack of movement. Another huge bonus and benefit we can release stuck emotions that become lodged in our tissues making us lighter in mind, body and spirit.
Enjoy the release!

Yoga Intensive July 11th
Yin

Welcome to Yin Yoga a deeply profound practice on all levels: energetic, physical mental and emotional.

LOVE Yourself by supporting your immune system and sense of well being during the winter months.
Margot will guide you through a series of poses targeting legs and pelvis, lengthen and soften your deep tissue layers, create space in your joints, open up the fascia matrix allowing chi and fluids to flow, massage and stimulate winter meridian pathways (kidney and urinary bladder).

What is Yin Yoga?

Yin yoga is a deeply profound practice that works on a myriad of levels: energetic, physical, emotional and mental. In this practice, we hold the poses in a relaxed way for a long periods of time (a minimum of 3 minutes and up to 10 minutes or more) to access target areas and lengthen and soften the deeper layers of fascia of the target areas and joints.
Fascia is connective tissue found throughout the body, for example, ligaments, tissues, muscles, organs, nerves, and blood vessels.

On an energetic level releasing, elongating and opening up the fascia matrix allows fluids, water and chi to flow unimpeded. It massages and stimulates the meridian pathways along which chi flows improving vitality, health and well being.

On a physical level, yin yoga creates space in the tissues and around the joints bringing freedom to an individual by restoring their natural range of movement.

Mentally and emotionally, a yin practice gives us time for reflecting on, digesting and releasing of thoughts or emotions that no longer support or nourish us.

 Yoga Intensive May 23rd
Yin & Yang

Hi yoga friends, I am excited to offer my Yin & Yang Yoga Intensive on Saturday May 23rd, Bairnsdale. My last one before I go to Bali to do a further 100 hours in Yin yoga training. I hope to share what I have learnt with you in class and in workshops. I hope to continue with the Yin and Yang intensives as well as introducing deep yin and restorative intensives when I return. My first offerings will be in July.

What's on offer for this intensive: A playful mix of 'yang' and 'yin' yoga. 'Yang' yoga is a dynamic, active and heating practice whereas 'yin' yoga is quiet, meditative and cooling practice. I offer flowing sequences beginning with Sun Salutes and moving through vinyasas to build heat before sliding into beautiful grounding moon salute variations. Throughout these flowing vinyasas the focus will be opening up space in the upper back, shoulders and neck.

The 'yin' practice where the poses are held for up to five minutes with emphasise on the lower body slowly and mindfully allowing the pose and time to melt away tension and tightness. This intensive is 2 hours of mindful movement finishing with pranayama (nadi shodhana) and meditation.

Intensive 4
Yoga Intensive May 9th
Restorative Yoga: Journey to the Psoas

Where and what does the psoas muscle group do?
Where is this 'psoas muscle' group?
The iliopsoas muscle group is made up of the psoas major, psoas, minor and the iliacus muscles. We will mostly explore the psoas major muscle in thisi workshop. The psoas originates from the 12th thoracic vertebrae (T12) and travels laterally to each of the 5 lumbar vertebrae. From there it flows down through the abdominal core, the pelvis, to attach to the top of the femur (thigh) bone (see image below from http://www.townsvillemassage.com/healthy-hip-flexors/)

What does it do?
The Psoas is the only ‘muscle’ to connect the upper and lower spine to the legs. It is responsible for holding us upright, and allows us to lift our legs in order to walk. A healthily functioning psoas stabilizes the spine and provides internal support through the trunk. This forms a shelf for the vital organs of the abdominal core to function optimally.

Interesting?

Resetting the psoas can assist with fatigue and tiredness, digestive and menstrual irregularities as well as lower back, SI joint and hip discomfort, and pelvic imbalances.
Internal awareness of the iliopsoas muslce group and learning to release this muscle group will bring a sense of freedom, ease and structural integrity into your core.

Intensive 3

Yoga Intensive March 28th
Ignite Your Fire

Unleash your inner warrior.
Be fierce. Build a strong core.

One of my students recently said “Yoga keeps me toned and calm, but I do other exercises for core strength.” Often “core strength” is associated with strong abdominal muscles and it is common to use various forms of sit-ups to develop this form of abdominal strength. For some they are a good start and can be a very effective yet for others they can create a sore neck and shoulders, a strained lower back and a contracted, rigid core.
Yoga poses use the core in a way that cultivates a strength born of physical integration and connection rather than one of force, strain and tension. Physical integration and connection is the coordination of different parts of the body working as a whole instead of isolating a muscle or muscle group. Understanding how to engage the whole body in building core strength is a key way to making mind, body and spirit stronger and more powerful. Working the body in unison ignites deep core muscles and brings awareness of how your torso and limbs work together to create calm and steady yoga poses and a strong inner fire.
Ignite your fire and take this sense of core strength and wholeness into a series of warrior poses and forearm and side plank variations.
Be fierce on and off the mat.

Appropriate for all levels as variations and modifications offered throughout the practice. Tailor the practice to suit your needs on the day.
